The need to replicate dentures is a common task in many dental laboratories.

  • If a denture breaks and is difficult to repair, replicate denture data can be used to recreate a denture identical to the original.

Sometimes dentures are replicated and recreated in transparent materials to be used as a surgical guide for implant surgery.

  • Traditional methods of denture replication require complex multi-step handwork. It also requires the technician to have advanced skills and experience in order to recreate the denture accurately.

  • Scanning the denture to capture 3D data allows for easy denture replication by 3D printing.

  • It can also be used as design reference data for full case implant surgery.

  • The Replica denture function included in the latest version of colLab (colLab 2017 v2.0.0.3) is designed to scan a complete denture simply by scanning the exterior and interior of the denture and merging it together, resulting in a single file that is ready for CAD design or manufacturing.

Here's a detailed introduction of colLab 2017's new feature 'Replica denture'.

  • Select the denture arch you wish to replicate (Maxilla or Mandible). If you select both arches, the occlusion scan option (highlighted in the red box bellow) will be activated.

If you wish to replicate the occlusion of the Maxilla and Mandible, please click on 'Occlusion scan' and select the articulator type from the drop down list on the right. If you do not need an occlusion, please skip this step.

Note: If you wish to scan a gypsum model to do a Full Denture Design, please follow the diagram above and select 'Standard' mode and then select 'Full Denture'. A wax rim is needed in order to show the occlusion.
